Three years ago, Kanye West gave up-and-comer Paul McCartney a chance to play on his hit single Only One. McCartney gained some buzz for his contribution to the song. One Twitter user @BaeAsHell noted, “He boutta blow up thanks to Kanye.” Another said, “Kanye has a great ear for talent. This Paul McCartney guy is gonna be huge.”
While it seemed perhaps the British singer-songwriter had faded into obscurity after his initial feature, we were pleased to recently learn he has managed to parlay his first Yeezy collaboration into a duet with the I Kissed a Girl pop star Katy Perry.
“I’m very grateful to Katy for seeing something in me,” said McCartney. “She’s bloody brilliant, and wickedly talented.”
Perry describes her new album Witness, which heavily features McCartney, as being “folk-hop” — a fusion of folk music and hip-hop.
“I think people are going to see my urban side for the first time,” said Perry. “And Paul, well, he can play the sh*t out of that didgeridoo.”
